A restaurant chain called "Surprise Me"...  Though not required, customers would be encouraged to just say "Surprise Me" when ordering to get a random meal/drink on the menu.  This could work for a fast food or casual dining restaurant. Besides a cool concept, the setup would be more efficient from an owner's perspective. Each restaurant could carry less food inventory than their traditional counterparts since substitutions could be made so easily.

Regions - A restaurant for frequent movers.  This restaurant would have on its menu a list of dishes that are unique to each area of the country.  That way if you're feeling nostaligic for a meal you grew up on that isn't served wherever you're located now, or missing something you found during yourr travels, you could drop in at the Regions restaurant and get what no one else is selling locally.

I like it. Some fast food restaurants customize their menu a bit for different areas but this could be the first corporate chain (that I know of) devoted to completely changing their menu to fit the local tastes. Premium food like lobster rolls in the northeast and jambalaya in the South could be the hallmarks of those areas.

Each restaurant could have decorations inspired by the local culture and a shop with souvenirs from that region. Like some sports fans go on road trips to visit every stadium they could encourage fans of the restaurants to visit every one throughout the country. Give them a code at each restaurant to enter on a map online and when they enter them all they get some sort of reward or discount.
That could work. The menu could include one or two items from each region in the country (or countries, depending on how high the immigrant population was). There would be Cleveland Chili, Philly Cheesesteaks, New England Fried Clams, etc.

Why is it so hard to find 24-hour pizza delivery except in the biggest cities? There should be enough demand for at least one place in cities of 100k or more.

Waiter Call Button

Don't bug me until I call.

This might already be available somewhere but I couldn't find it. The idea would be to add a call button to each table just like they have on airplanes. When you wanted your waiter you'd just press it. That would keep you from getting interupted with questions about the service right in the middle of a conversation and make the waiters waste less time asking those questions.

McDonald's in Virginia and Europe have installed iPads in booths that are free for customers to use. It will be interesting to see if other McD's or other brands of restaurants add them as well. I imagine time limits and site filters will be built into them. Just make sure yours has been cleaned off first.

A Checkers fast food restaurant in Davenport, IA has a setup I haven't seen anywhere else.  Drive-thru lanes that lead to alternate sides of the building in a Y shape.  One side serves the driver through the driver's side of the car and the other serves through the passenger side. Assuming it's not patented I'm surprised more chains haven't tried this.

Table Gutters

Saving your clothes one meal at a time.

During a recent trip to a restaurant one of the people dining with us knocked over his glass, sending the coke flowing over half of the table and down into a puddle on the floor. While waiting for someone to clean it up it occurred to me that we wouldn't have all had to jump back out of the way to keep from getting soaked if the table had had a discreet gutter system built into it. A table like that would have rounded edges that had about a one inch gap halfway down the curve. All four gutters would be slightly angled towards one corner pocket which had a flat plastic bottle attached to it beneath the table. To clean up, all you'd have to do is run a towel down each gutter to force any remaining fluid into the bottle, unhook the used bottle, and snap in a replacement bottle. It might take a few more seconds after each meal for the busboy to run a towel down the gutters to clean them between meals but it would save the diners a lot of embarrassment and put those who brought children with them a little more at ease. It might also save the restaurant some money from slip-and-fall lawsuits too.

Restaurant Nanny

If you've ever gone to a middle-of-the-road or high-end restaurant and tried to eat with children screaming in the background then this idea might be worth pursuing. The kids' parents would probably like having it as an option too. When they get the urge to dine out they're usually faced with a choice - go to some crappy fast food restaurant, find a babysitter (not always easy), or take the kids with them and hope for the best.

A restaurant nanny would give them a fourth choice - take the kids with them and get the best. The parents could keep the kids at the table while they were behaving and then request a 'restaurant nanny' to take charge of them when they got out of hand so they could finish the rest of their meal in peace. The nanny would take the children to a soundproof room where she could deal with them appropriately (webcams on the table would let the parents verify this). Some high-end resorts already do something along these lines (although they take the kids away for the whole meal, and sometimes for the whole day) - it's time normal parents, and those of us who happen to be dining in the same restaurant with them, got a break too.

I'm Full - Please Don't Make Me Do The Math

How many times have you gotten a bill at a restaurant and spent a minute trying to figure out how much a 15% or 20% tip would be? Seems like restaurants could make this easier just by having a note print at the bottom of the bill saying:

** This is for informational purposes only. **

A 10% tip would be amount A
A 15% tip would be amount B
A 20% tip would be amount C

Customers at Chinese restaurants choose live fish for their meals from the fish tanks in those restaurants. Why not have a restaurant with a garden next to it? Diners choose live fruits, vegetables, and herbs for their meals. Doesn't get any fresher than that.

World Desserts cafe chain that would sell desserts from places all around the world. It'd be popular and build up a following because people could find the desserts they love but can't find anywhere else where they live.

Chinese desserts in particular, like sesame shakes, almond cream, and azuki sundaes aren't sold much around the world on Chinese food menus. People in big cities are looking to try something new so sell these desserts there.

In foreign restaurants put the phonetic spelling under each item on the menu. Easier to learn the correct pronunciation.

So sick of restaurants not offering wifi. They should have clear decals with a universally-recognized symbol to put on restaurant signs so you know before going in if they offer wifi.

Create a family restaurant where, once a month, kids can cook for their families under the guidance of the restaurant's chefs.

A digital sign on the side of a restaurant with the current wait time for customers. Would work for barber shops too.

A pizza joint where there's a buffet line and you pick your sauces, cheeses, meats, and veggies, and spread them on your pie. Then hand it off to the guy manning the oven to cook it.

Lots of people love to cook at home but hate cleaning up. There could be places you could go to cook and eat, maybe socialize while you're at it, and dishwashers and table cleaners would take care of the rest. They provide the pots and pans, silverware, etc. No cooking or serving staff like restaurants have. Whole new type of cooking and dining experience...

Implant a microchip in our heads and we could decide if we want to hear the lame music at places like Starbucks and, if not, only you would not hear it somehow and the lamos that are there still could.

Why not a collection of food courts with cuisines and culture centers selling crafts and goods from those regions in one place. Spend the day shopping, learning, and chowing down!

They should have pinball, arcade games, and beanbags for comfortable at these lame ff joints in my zombie town. Also jukeboxes in every place and give a free song choice with every order. 2ombat these pathetic tunes they apparently select!

There are so many lame songs played at fast food joints like Taco Bell. It would be cool and fun if they had gong buttons on the wall you could press to skip ahead to the next song. Kids would have fun jumping up and running to hit it! Jukeboxes with new songs would kick butt too!

Saw this the other day. Why not a restaurant where kids can cook different foods/entrees in ovens/stoves/etc. behind the counter with supervision from the cooks there? Get children interested in cooking at an early age.
